America's Ruling Class

Ever wonder why things are the way they are in our nation's capital? I mean, we have a ruling party acting in arrogance, passing unpopular legislation, and fearing that they're about to turned out of office they're talking about ramming more laws we don't want down our throats.

On the other side of the aisle, we have an impotent-by-design minority party with just as much contempt for you as those in charge......why aren't they doing anything? Why do they resist an opportunity to be an alternative? Why do they join with the Democrats in raising spending, the national debt, and in providing "amnesty" to those in this country illegally?

Well there's an excellent article in The American Spectator which analyzes this. It's a long read, but well worth it.

  1. My main gripe with politics today is what I think is the very dangerous precedent of requiring 60 votes in the Senate to pass anything (to avoid filibusters) instead of making compromises that both sides (or at least a majority thereof) can agree on. This filibuster-proof requirement is only going to produce more extremism on both sides, which can only tear our country apart. As it was once said, united we stand, divided we fall. We're heading for a fall.

  2. I'm actually in favor of the filibuster. The Senate, by tradition, has unlimited debate, and plus the threshold of 60 prevents tyranny of the minority by the majority.

Second, if one party wants to abuse the filibuster and be seen as obstructionists, then let them take the risk.

Third, I'm of the mindset lately that the less legislation this Congress passes, the better off we all are. They don't even so much as *read* what they're voting on anymore.
